Legislative Agenda > Commission Work Programme

The Commission Work Programme (CWP) is adopted by the European Commission in Autumn for the following year. It is composed of two documents one communication explaining the main objectives of the European Commission action for the next year and one annex in which corresponding concrete proposals to be put forward are listed.

In compliance with the Treaty which gives to the European Commission the main initiative prerogative, the CWP contains all the strategic and priority initiatives.

They take the form of legislative as well as non-legislative proposals to be put forward by the European Commission during the forthcoming year.

Therefore the CWP is a yearly fundamental document as it has a direct and obvious influence on a large part of the European Parliament day-by-day work. That does not mean that the European Parliament and the Political Groups have no influence on the contents of this Work Programme.

Indeed, the Political Groups of the European Parliament can influence the European Commission before drafting and adopting its Work Programme but also during its implementation through different means which are debates in plenary, dialogue in the parliamentary committees and adoption of resolutions.

As far as the EPP Group is concerned, the Commission Work Programme is extremely important. Because it is the largest Political Group in the European Parliament, the EPP ensures that its voice is heard and always focuses on the needs and expectations of European citizens.
