Sustainable European Transport Policy
Gabriele Albertini MEP (Italy) presented his report on Sustainable European Transport Policy in Strasbourg on 10 March 2008.
The energy efficiency of road, water, rail and air transport has been considerably improved in recent years enabling a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions. However, these improvements have been cancelled out by the effects of growing demand in the transport sector. By stimulating technological innovation, the introduction of pricing systems like the Eurovignette, and accompanying measures to stimulate the use of the most environmentally friendly modes of transport, transport can become more sustainable.
